WINTER, 2026
NOW OPEN:

As the evenings grow longer and the temperatures drop, we're looking for work inspired by the magic, mystery, and quiet of winter nights.

Bonfires, insomnia, storms, road trips, city lights, lonely walks, warm kitchens, midnight conversations. Show us what happens after dark.

Whether it's a story that unfolds beneath a streetlamp, a poem written in the small hours, an essay about a winter memory, or artwork inspired by the season, we'd love to see where the night takes you. Interpret the theme as broadly or as literally as you like. Winter can be cosy or unsettling, joyful or lonely, familiar or strange. Surprise us.

We welcome:

  • Short fiction

  • Flash fiction

  • Creative nonfiction and personal essays

  • Poetry

  • Artwork, photography, and illustration

There are no strict genre requirements - literary, speculative, romance, horror, memoir, and everything in between are welcome.

  • Word limit is between: 50-500 words

  • Deadline for inclusion in Volume 6: June 23, 2026

HOW TO SUBMIT

WE PUT A CALL-OUT

Throughout the month we seek different styles of writing with their own guidelines and word limits. Keep an eye out on our social media platforms, or sign up to our email newsletter, for the latest challenges.

YOU SUBMIT YOUR WORK

Writers can submit as many works as they'd like, free of charge! Submissions can be made via the entry form below or by emailing submitlittlelit@gmail.com

By submitting your work, you also agree to us publishing your social media handle if selected for print. We want to share your talents with as many readers as possible and a link to an author's online page is a good way to do this.

WE READ AND REVIEW

We read your entries and decide which might be perfect for our latest edition of The Little Lit. Depending on quantity received, you may or may not be informed that your work is going to be published.

All submissions remain yours and you are welcome to submit them to other publications at any time. However, PLEASE NOTE: Editors of The Little Lit hold the right to amend/edit your work for accuracy, including fixing typos/grammatical errors. Any larger changes, and we will be in touch.

WHAT CAN I SUBMIT?

We are pretty open-minded at Little Monroe Literary! We don't want to censure your work, so we are open to receiving pieces that contain curse words, romance, and gore. On the flip-side, we do also accept Young Adult stories, children's illustrations, and micro-fiction, and each page of The Little Lit is carefully constructed and organised so that there is something for everybody in each edition.

In saying that, each piece selected to be published is subject to the views of the editing team. If there's a certain phrase or a paragraph that raises eyebrows in an otherwise perfect submission, we may get in touch to ask for your permission to tweak or omit things.
